The Pharmacy Department at BMEC is located on the ground floor next to the A&E department.

Our department dispenses prescriptions for the A&E department and hospital only medications from Outpatients (Dermatology and Ophthalmology). We also provide an inpatient service to the wards in Sheldon block. We dispense all the post surgery medication for the Ophthalmic surgery patients.

Pharmacy supportPlease remember to bring along any evidence of reasons that you would be exempt from a prescription charge e.g. Family credit, Income support, Income-based Jobseeker’s allowance.

If you are paying for your prescription; and the item you are prescribed by our doctors is cheaper to purchase over the counter at a community pharmacy, we will inform you of this at the outset.

We can only dispense hospital prescriptions that are marked as: ‘’This prescription can only be dispensed at the Pharmacy Departments of Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.’’ Other prescriptions need to be taken to a retail pharmacy.

If you are admitted as an in-patient please remember to bring all your existing medication with you in their original containers. This will enable the team looking after you to ensure that any new therapy is safe to be taken alongside your existing therapy.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have queries on how to use your medication. However, please note we do not book appointments or forward on information to your GP.
