Sandwell Lord Mayor names BMEC as one of her charities of the year

BMEC has been selected as one of the Lord Mayor’s charities of the year.

The welcome news came after Councillor Linda Horton was officially named as Lord Mayor of the borough at a ceremony at Sandwell Town Hall.

Following tradition, the Mayor will organise and support a number of events to raise funds for the centre during her year long term in office.

Linda Horton said: “Sadly last year my husband Roger, who is my consort, suffered a major eye injury which has required a tremendous amount of hospital visits and operations.

“We were both so impressed by the work and devotion shown by the staff at BMEC that when I became mayor in May I had no hesitation in selecting the centre as one of my two chosen charities.

“It is the least I can do for all of the brilliant work that is done there.”

Roger’s vision was restored after a series of complex procedures by the BMEC team under the guidance of Mr Imran Masood and Mr Arijit Mitra.

Carly Jones, Head of Fundraising at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Charity, said:

“We were thrilled to find out that Sandwell Lord Mayor Linda Horton had selected BMEC as one of her charities of the year.

“With so many other worthy charities to choose from Mayor Councillor Horton’s decision is a testament to the amazing work done by BMEC staff.
